“And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, 'Truly this man was the Son of God!'”
-Mark 15:37-39
Good Friday was the fulfillment of all the prophecies of the suffering servant who would be the Messiah, the one true King who would bring lasting peace. We didn’t have to beg Jesus to do this for us, He came as a willing servant and saved us while we were still sinners. He asked for nothing from us except faith, which is also a gift of grace from the Holy Spirit. Even when he was mocked on the cross, Jesus extended forgiveness and grace to the men on either side of Him--one of which would see Him in paradise that very day. Good Friday is good because the dark day of suffering and death is followed by the glorious victory of the resurrection and eternal life.
